What are Blackheads?

Blackheads are the irritating little blackish or yellowish bumps fixed within the pores of our skin. Medical practitioners consider it as a kind of acne, known as an open comedone. Blackheads are the starting stage of acne. It occurs prior to invasion of the pores by bacteria that ultimately leads to infection and inflammation.

These lesions normally occur after puberty, when the hormones begin rising within the body and skin. The extra hormones in the skin cause stimulation of the oil gland in the skin (sebaceous glands). As a result, excess oil is produced in the pore, leading to acne in many teenagers.

But those with very oily skin are more likely to suffer from blackheads. Although it is commonly believed that blackheads and clogged pores are common amongst the teens, it is frequently observed that this problem begins when the people are in their twenties, or goes on through the teen years into adulthood.

But blackheads don’t only affect the people with the oily skin. Even those who apply a lot of makeup, and don’t wash the skin thoroughly, are also prone to suffering from blackheads. Hence it is important to conduct regular skin checks and deep skin cleansing to prevent it from turning into ugly black spots on your face. But remember that blackheads can crop up on any other part of your body, including your arms, back and butt.
