Something About Blackheads

Something About Blackheads:

Blackheads are a form of acne caused with the partial blocking of pores. They look ‘black’ not because of dirt, but because of the oxidizing effect of air on the sebum that occurs in blocked skin pores, along with melanin pigment of dead skin cells.

So the best thing to do to get rid of blackheads is to remove its cause; excessive sebum oil and dead skin cells. This is best done by using only products made from natural ingredients which don’t have much of an astringent effect. This is because harsh products only strip skin oil, which in turn leads to more sebum and blocked pores.

However do use cleansing products with natural oils like jojoba or coconut oil to cleanse the skin. As these oils are quite similar to our natural oils, the pores don’t get blocked. You could also try some gentle exfoliating mask to remove dead skin cells, and avoid blocking of pores. However be careful when exfoliating as too much of exfoliating only aggravates the problem. Avoid products with alcohol, mineral oil, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl and parabens.

Never try to extract blackheads forcibly with fingers, fingernails or a comedone remover as this leads to permanent damage to the pores. By eating correct food, sebum production is reduced while moisture in the skin increased to help producing new skin cells. Eat more of fresh fruits, raw fats and vegetables while avoiding cooked carbohydrates and oil to reduce the production of sebum.

When wearing make up, your foundations and concealers have to be oil free, and non-comedogenic to avoid blocking pores. Don’t wear make up when sweating and do remove make up using a cleanser every night. Keep all make up brushes and sponges clean by washing them in mild shampoo once a month and drying them before using.
