Laser Surgery For Acne To Remove Scars

Laser Surgery For Acne To Remove Scars

Among the many types of acne scar surgeries available and performed today is the use of a nonablative diode laser in treating most cases of atrophic acne scars. This form of laser surgery for acne is referred to for use in people with type IV to V Asian skin as there is not much proof on the effectiveness of using these nonablative lasers in patients having even darker skin types.

In a bid in proving the effectiveness and safety of this laser surgery for acne , many studies have been carried out using nonablative 1450 nm diode lasers. These lasers were used with a cryogen cooling spray on people having Type IV to V Asian skin. It was patients with atrophic acne scars who were chosen for this study. With this study, they had undergone four to six laser treatment sessions and had a final assessment after six months from the last treatment.

On completing these tests, it was evaluated that the patients experienced mild to gradual scar improvement with the diode lasers. Like most surgical procedures, there are some side effects associated with this treatment that includes mild to moderate pain during the procedure, hyper pigmentation and transient erythema. However most patients would be more than ready to undergo this treatment and bear these side effects. This is because they know that they will be rid of their acne scars after the surgical procedure.

So it can be said that laser surgery for acne is effective in bringing about moderate and gradual improvement in the treatment of facial atrophic acne scars. Moreover, this is a procedure that has minimal down time and is a great option for people of darker skin types IV and V.
