Benzoyl Peroxide: A Miracle Cure for Acne

Benzoyl Peroxide: A Miracle Cure for Acne

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most common treatments for mild acne, including whiteheads and blackheads. It is ranked amongst the top 5 acne treatments. Though acne is not curable, benzoyl peroxide can treat is completely.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antiseptic and lowers the number of skin bacteria, without developing bacterial resistance to antibiotics. It also lowers the number of yeasts present on the skin surface. As benzoyl peroxide is an oxidizing agent, it bleeds dry comedones (mild acne) from the skin surface and is an anti-inflammatory. Though benzoyl peroxide by itself is effective, using benzoyl peroxide products with 3-step kits are much more effective and prevent acne.

Benzoyl peroxide properties make it an ideal choice in treating mild to moderate acne. The anti-inflammatory properties ease swelling in infected papules and pustules, providing relief from the soreness, accompanying acne outbreaks. The oxidizing factor loosens the thickened sebum or fluid present inside the acne and reduces the instances of the plugged pores. This allows the acne to heal without harming the area, due to popping the acne. For better results, always use a benzoyl peroxide exfoliator.

Benzoyl peroxide is available in a cleansing liquid or bar, lotion, cream and gel, for topical use. It is also a primary ingredient in various over-the-counter acne topical medications. However benzoyl peroxide is not recommended for children below 12 years, unless directed by a physician.
