Pregnancy is a momentous occasion for any woman. While on one hand, she is expectantly looking forward to the birth of the newborn, on the other, she is beset with various problems like nausea, morning sickness, diabetes, back pain, and of course, acne.

Acne is mainly caused when there is a hormonal imbalance in our body. During pregnancy, a woman’s hormones undergo fluctuation. This can cause acne flare-ups during pregnancy. Taking any strong medications during this time can harm the fetus.




But there is no need to worry. By using these following do’s and don’ts during pregnancy, you can reduce the chances of acne flare-ups, while protecting your baby at the same time.

 Adopt a healthy routine of cleanliness to regulate the growth of bacteria, exercise regularly to improve circulation to whole body, including skin, and consume plenty of fruits and vegetables after washing them properly.

 Cleanse your skin to ensure it remains oil-free during pregnancy. If you are likely to experience breakouts during pregnancy, it is important to cleanse your face twice a day. Always use a micro-fiber cloth that absorbs the oil.

 Gently wash your face with an oil-free, mild soap. Avoid over-cleansing as it can strip your skin of excess oil. Your body tries to retain the balance and over-cleansing tells it that there is a shortage of oil, so it needs to secrete more. This makes the sebaceous glands more active.

 Cleanse your face with a lot of water to get rid of any remaining soap that can harbor bacteria or aggravate the skin.

 Pat your skin dry immediately after showering and then apply a layer of oil-free moisturizer on your skin.

 Take special care not to rub the area near the flare-up, since it can spread the bacteria and cause more zits on the skin.




 While using an astringent, use many cotton balls in order to cover every pimple or blackhead. Take one cotton ball soaked in an astringent, pat it on one blemish and then throw it away. Use a different one for every blemish.

 Regular exercise is helpful for balancing any skin type, by improving circulation and blood flow to the skin, thus toning it and making it healthy. Besides it also reduces stress, a major cause of acne.
